How to Fish a Shaky Head with Patrick Walters

Wed, May 11, 2022

One of the most effective ways to get bites in tough conditions is a favorite of Bassmaster Elite Series angler, Patrick Walters - the Shaky Head. While an excellent technique for deep points, brush piles, and offshore rocky structures, Patrick Walters has also found a home for the shaky head fished around shallow cover, such as trees and hard cover due to its snag-resisting abilities. Even during windy conditions, Patrick reaches for the shaky head over a wacky worm to ensure you have constant bottom contact and can fish the pieces of cover most effectively. There are many variations of shaky head jigs on the market, but Patrick Walters' favorite is the simple ball head design (without a spring or spike to attach your bait). With a medium or medium-heavy 7ft spinning rod rigged with 10lb Sufix braid to a 10lb Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon leader, you're ready to hit the water and fish one of the most effective finesse presentations for bass with the reliable shaky head.
