When Brad Novak uses a spoon for ice fishing, he generally is targeting larger species, like walleye. For this application, he likes a stiffer rod in the 27-inch range, either a medium-light or medium-action rod based on the weight of the spoon you're fishing. As for the line choice, a 6lb fluorocarbon ice line is his preferred choice, but if there are a lot of pike around he will upgrade to a 6lb braided ice line with a 6lb fluorocarbon leader.
