Humminbird Waypoint Tip with Patrick Walters

Mon, May 16, 2022

Bassmaster Elite Series angler, Patrick Walters, spends a lot of time behind his electronics on the professional tour, and here he has a quick tip on how to better manage your waypoints when using Humminbird Helix and Solix units. The factory default setting with Humminbird is to make a regular dot as the emblem to represent the waypoint location on your Lakemaster GPS mapping. For starters, Patrick opens his Settings menu and turns User Mode from "Angler" to "Custom". From there, use the navigation button to locate Waypoint Settings and turn New Waypoint Icon from default to "Select", then save changes. The next time you go to mark a waypoint it will prompt you with an option to choose the image icon to represent the waypoint location. For example, when scanning a shallow flat looking for isolated cover, you can indicate a stump on your side imaging as an actual stump logo on your GPS mapping. This gives you the cleanest waypoint management when faced with a variety of cover or structures on the lake bottom, allowing you to make targeted casts to specific pieces of cover knowing exactly what it is and where it's located.
